EUR1 Trade Agreement
We help South African businesses understand and apply the EUR1-related trade agreements
that enable reduced or zero customs duties when exporting to eligible
European partner countries, while maintaining full compliance with customs and origin rules.
How EUR1 Fits Into Trade Agreements
EUR1 Certificates are used within the framework of specific preferential trade agreements between South Africa and European partner countries.
These agreements set out which products qualify, what origin rules apply and how customs authorities will treat eligible goods at the border.
Â
EUR.1 trade agreement partner countries:
- Austria - Belgium - Bulgaria - Croatia - Cyprus - Czech Republic - Denmark - Estonia - Finland - France
- Germany - Greece - Hungary - Ireland - Italy - Latvia - Lithuania - Luxembourg - Malta
- Netherlands - Poland - Portugal - Romania
- Slovakia
- Slovenia
- Spain
- Sweden
EFTA partners using EUR.1 with South Africa:
- Iceland - Liechtenstein - Norway - Switzerland
To benefit from preferential tariffs under EUR1-linked trade agreements, your products must meet the detailed rules of origin and any product-specific requirements set out in the relevant agreement. This often involves careful classification, supply chain mapping and documentation.
Key Considerations for EUR1 Trade Agreements
- All supporting documents must be submitted as clear, legible copies. Incomplete or inconsistent information can lead to delays, customs queries or denial of preferential treatment at the border.
Agreement-Specific Documentation: Depending on the agreement and product, you may need supplier declarations, long-term origin statements, manufacturing records and other evidence to prove that your goods qualify under the applicable rules.
- Business Registration and Compliance: Your business must be correctly registered with SARS and any relevant trade or customs authorities, with up-to-date details that match your EUR1 applications and commercial documents.
- Trader and Supply Chain Information: You will need to provide details of your suppliers, manufacturing processes and distribution routes so that origin and value-add can be assessed under the specific trade agreement.
- Important Notes: All documents must be submitted according to the timelines and formats required by SARS and partner customs authorities. Any changes in your supply chain, product composition or ownership structure should be communicated so that your use of EUR1 within these agreements remains accurate and defensible.
