SADC Certificates

What are SADC Certificates?
SADC Certificates of Origin are used under the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Trade Protocol to
prove that goods qualify as originating within the SADC region.
When the origin rules are met and a valid SADC Certificate is presented, importers can benefit from reduced
or zero customs duties in participating SADC member states.

Before you can benefit from SADC preferences, customs authorities must be satisfied that your goods qualify under the SADC rules of origin. This requires accurate HS classification, reliable supplier or manufacturing records and correctly completed SADC Certificates of Origin.
Important Information for SADC Certificate Users
- All supporting documents must be submitted as clear, legible copies. Incomplete or inconsistent information can lead to delays, customs queries or denial of preferential treatment at the border.
SADC Supporting Documentation: Depending on your products and supply chain, you may need supplier declarations, manufacturing records, costing information and other evidence to prove that your goods qualify as originating under SADC rules.
- Business Registration Requirements: Your business must be correctly registered with SARS and any relevant trade or customs authorities, with up-to-date details that match your SADC Certificates and commercial documents.
- Trader and Supply Chain Information: You will need to provide details of your suppliers, manufacturing processes and distribution routes so that origin and value-add can be assessed under the SADC Trade Protocol.
- Important Notes: All documents must be submitted according to the timelines and formats required by SARS and partner customs authorities.
